This weekend, the Coleman AdventureFest landed in Irving, Texas. For 3 days, families can visit and experience fun activities like archery, rock climbing and rocketry. Our family received free tickets to the event, so we headed down to the Dallas area to explore and have a little adventure of our own.
The kids had a great time at AdventureFest. Before we arrived we printed off a map and everyone picked their favorite activities. My oldest was dying to try out the BMX track and the zero gravity simulator.
The people from Space Camp in Huntsville, Alabama brought down their zero gravity and flight simulators. My oldest son was the only of our own children tall enough to ride the zero gravity simulator. Once he was all strapped in, they pod was given a push and away he went. He LOVED it! He said, “It’s like riding a roller coaster, but better.”
My daughter and youngest son wanted to try their hands at archery and rock climbing. At the archery stations, they were given crossbows and taught how to hold the compound bow, position the arrow, aim, and shoot.
Their targets were dinosaurs. My youngest was excited and to hit a dinosaur.
The rock wall was really fun. I haven’t been on a rock wall in years. The kids and I took turns climbing the wall. When it was my turn my youngest two, literally, scurried up the wall and left me trailed behind. But don’t take my word for it. Take a look at the video we shot.
There were plenty of hands on activties for the whole family. The Rocket building is something we've never done before.
It was a little challenging, but luckily there were people manning the station that could assist us.
When we get home, we’ll go buy motors for them and shoot them off in an open field.
Throughout the weekend, celebrity guests would give talks and demonstations. While we were there, Creek Stewart from the Weather Channel’s “Fat Guys in the Woods" gave a talk about emergency preparedness that was really good. We had the chance to talk to him at his booth after his talk. He was really personable and showed the kids have to use survival equipment.
AdventureFest is sponsored by Coleman, a leader in outdoor recreation products. The event runs August 21st thru 23rd at the Irving Convention Center.
Stop by and enjoy all the activities indoors or stop by Coleman’s Tent sale (no admission) and save on outdoor fun essentials like tents, sleeping bags, camp stoves and more.
We received complimentary event tickets in exchange for writing this article. All opinions are that of Little Family Adventure.
